 For this project I am tasked with making an 8-page comic based on a given song. The song I decided to use was Petula Clark’s “The Other Man’s Grass is always Greener”. My initial ideas consisted of a character in a basic yet unhappy life. Looking at the lyrics I came up with a plot for the comic. After reviewing the page drafts I had created I felt it was much better to design them digitally which led to the final creations. I learned that even though I used toning to express a dark emotion for the character, facial expressions would help strengthen the overall emotion for the character. I also learned that mixing colours alongside the main colour green would help make the piece visually more pleasing and perhaps realistic for the viewer.

 For this project I was tasked with understanding how colour and composition are used and how I can practise and apply this to my own work.  For this task I had to create a colour wheel by using and mixing paints, alongside creating tones for a colour and comparing it to a greyscale.  For this task I had to create grids with squares and apply colour schemes based on both my personality and given topics. For this task I created abstract images based on given themes. For this task I had to create book covers in the style of a given artist and using their chosen media.
Overall I learned that colour is extremely important when expressing the mood of a piece. Being able to mix colours and control the tone with practise is essential to grow as an artist. I also learned that experimenting and playing with colour schemes can further our understanding of colours themselves and the overall mood of a piece.  For this project I am tasked with creating thumbnail visuals for a given theatre poster. I decided to choose to design thumbnail visuals for the film Peter Pan. I took two different approaches to the character, a lighter theme based on the Disney adaptation and a much darker theme which I based mostly on the Once Upon a Time adaptation of Peter Pan.
Overall I learned that a perfect balance of colours alongside a good use of imagery can really make a poster express the mood of the film. I also learned that drawing many thumbnail visuals can create comfortability and can continually improve the piece being made.  In this project I was tasked with practising with one-point perspective and two-point perspective. I first practiced the way of perspective in a sketchbook, trying to understand the many methods of one-point and two-point perspective. I also applied the perspective knowledge into practice drawings on the app Procreate, exploring both one- point and two-point perspective. Overall I learned that perspective is a key component for drawing subjects such as 3D objects and people. I also learned how to properly apply each key element of perspective in a drawing; angles and distance can make a big difference in a drawing. However, light can also be properly applied using perspective and knowing all this it will help expand my artistic knowledge as an illustrator.
 In this project I was tasked to make three exact copies of different works, using their own respective media. Each copy had to be presented on an A4 sheet of paper alongside the original with a 15mm gap in between.    Overall I learned that understanding the media is not the only crucial thing when making a copy of an artist's work, another thing is to understand the method the artist uses to make their piece. This will not only help when researching other artists and their works but also my own and can help improve my artistic skills as an illustrator.
 For this task I had to window mount a postcard behind an A4 piece of mounting card.  For this task I had to surface mount six postcards, in the same orientation, onto an A2 sheet of mid grey card.  For this task I had to flat mount a piece of coloured card, 210mm x 90mm, onto a piece of foamcore.  For this task, using a pen, I had to draw the outline of a 40mm square onto a piece of layout paper, directly in the middle of the sheet. The paper had to be kept in pristine condition, meaning that the only marks allowed on the paper were the pen markings.  For this task I had to emboss a circle, square and equilateral triangle, 45mm high, share a baseline and be centered, onto an A4 piece of cartridge paper.  For this task I had to carve out a perfect circle, with a 40mm radius and centred on the page, from an A4 piece of cartridge paper.  For this task I had to cut the word SHOP out of thin grey card and mount it on an A3 sheet of cartridge paper. The letters had to be 80mm high, be carefully spaced on a common baseline and the font to be used was Rockwell Extra Bold.  For this task I had to create my own paper carving, being A5 in size.
 For this task I had to create and experiment with paper cutting and folding techniques and take well lit photographs of them.  For this task I had to create a pop-up book based on a well known saying. The book had to be A3 when opened and A4 when closed and be made primarily using coloured card. Overall I learned that making things can be very time consuming and difficult, however, taking time on each creation will be rewarding and will be reflected upon the effort put into the work. I also learned that paper can be used in many creative ways and exploring these ways can help expand my artistic knowledge.
 In this project, working in groups of three, we are tasked in creating an 8-page comic based on a given nursery rhyme. My team decided to choose the nursery rhyme The Crooked Man. Our initial idea was to express a dark tone which could deliberately show the crookedness of our character. However, upon reviewing our current draft we realised that our comic wasn’t as effective as we thought as we felt it was too literal, which made the overall draft a bit complicated. We altered the draft and made it simpler, which made it more effective and thus lead tot the final creation. I learned that being too literal can make a piece too complicated and not as effective so simplifying it can help strengthen the overall piece.
