Project 1: Conceptual Illustration
For this project, I am tasked to create editorial illustrations based on a given news article. Rishi Sunak’s continues to implement a ‘levelling up’ plan, started by Boris Johnson, however it was very confusing for people to understand.

Character design - Rishi Sunak:
I decided to take an approach which depicts the subject in a caricature style. So I made some caricature designs for Rishi Sunak, and looking at how to portray his character and personality.
Thumbnail ideas - Feature Illustration:
My initial approach was to depict Rishi Sunak trying to get a child to understand the 'game plan' of his levelling up strategy.
Idea Rethink:
After receiving feedback, I went back to the drawing board to think of a better illustration idea. I decided to alter the idea in response to a better target audience. Instead of a child being taught a lesson on the process, how about a depiction of a board game being played by Rishi, Boris and Liz.
Thumbnail Ideas (rethink):
After receiving some feedback, I felt that the thumbnail illustrations I attempted to make were hard for others to understand, so while keeping the caricature approach, I changed my approach from a child being taught the 'game' to the character actually playing the 'game'.

In the end I decided this thumbnail better represented my approach to the situation. I will also conduct tests with different media to see which version works best for me.

Spot Illustration Ideas:
For my spot illustration I decided to make a board game logo to link with my previous illustration, but making it as a 'government edition' for the game Snakes and Ladders.

After Feedback:
After receiving feedback on my illustrations, my logo will need to be redone entirely and draw a brand new logo for the spot illustration.
