Project 2: Clarify the Complex (Flintlock Rifles)
For this project I am tasked with designing some illustrations in any form I like, explaining the science behind how Flintlock Rifles work.

What is a flintlock rifle?
A flintlock rifle is different to other types of flintlock weapons. While it shares the same mechanism as the other types of flintlock weapons, the barrel is very different. The barrel contains grooves, which makes the projectile spin, increasing its speed and accuracy. However, while it is better in terms of accuracy, it still shares the same drawbacks with the other flintlock weapons; it took a long time to reload the weapon and precautions with its maintenance still needed to be considered.

Rough Thumbnail Ideas
These are rough thumbnails for some book pages explaining the workings of a flintlock rifle, including some rough ideas how how to present the rifle in different ways. I will draw up some better versions based on my references and decide whether or not I should improve or edit the ideas a little more.
Illustration Ideas
British Soldier (16th-17th Century)
The idea behind these drawings was to show who used the flintlock rifles the most throughout its history. Around the 16th - 17th century was when these types of weapons were mostly used. The rifle was also used in the military, specifically for its accuracy and power, hence why I drew the British Soldier. I will use ink and fineliner to make the drawings more finalised, however, I will aim to add colour to bring out the illustration further.
Rifle drawings
These drawings are to help break down the fundamentals of the workings of the rifle. With the gun in question itself, two zoomed in versions focusing on the flintlock mechanism, and the inside of the rifle’s barrel. Same thing with the previous drawings; I will use ink and fineliner to finalise the drawings but also include colour to bring the illustration a step forward.
